A forbidden and eldritch spell unearthed in hushed secrecy from ancient tombs which were stumbled upon by sappers during the siege of Harmon City in the third Dedric wars. When the octagonal chambers beneath the battlefield were explored by diggers, they came upon several skeletons carved head to toe in glimmering yellow runes. These were brought to the camp magus, who promptly disappeared, leaving the tunnels and the siege to collapse shortly thereafter.
Although the accursed name of the magus has been lost forever, the spells remain, showing up from time to time when black necromancy is rumoured. The spell causes any undead it is cast upon to become limned in a yellowish-green fire which causes no harm to the zombie, vampire, or ghost, but spreads quickly to anything living they touch.
The fire spreads like normal fire, affecting only living flesh, which burns as though it were dry wood, and exudes no heat, but rather the terrible cold of the darkness beyond the abyss, blackening and crisping where it catches. The pain it causes is agonising, and it can spread from person to person, leaving permanent marks where it injures.
Worse yet, although the fire is extinguished when life leaves the body, it can start up again if anything living touches the remains, whether they be bones or even dust. For this reason the bodies of those slain by deadfire are treated with great caution, for even if one tries to turn them into weapons they're exceptionally dangerous to use.
The curse of deadfire can be dispelled with a blessing from a priest of the light, or by application of certain rare temple oils.

Inspirations
I have visions of veterans of a war against necromancers missing limbs and extremities as a mark of where the fire touched them - self inflicted to avoid the ultimate doom. Or unholy vaults filled with the stuff, enter with extreme care. A group of assassins that only use deadfire dust in their slayings, usually sprinkled on desserts.
