One of the great difficulties with marshalling a skyship fleet or convoy, whether for travel or in battle, is the difficulty of communicating between vessels. Line of sight is a problem, unless the decks of ships are visible to one another, darkness, distance, and above all else clouds, which effectively isolate each vessel from the other in a way that can't easily be resolved, especially since the noise of high winds in the upper airs makes signalling by sound impractical.
To address these issues, the Sisters of the Sky, a druidical sect whose temple is built in an abandoned cloud giant's fortress, developed a technique known as Wisp Whispers.
When this spell is cast within a mist, fog or other cloud, the caster can communicate with others, as long as they are all touching a piece of wood made from the same tree, used in the casting. The fog, cloud or mist needs to be connected but can extend to any distance. Further, the Whisperer can tell the approximate distance and direction of those who listen.
It works just as well on the ground or on the sea, but in the sky it has transformed heavy cloud cover from a nuisance and a hazard to a vital element in defeating enemies. Those with the Wisp Whisper on their side can array themselves in hidden formations, strike without warning, and vanish effectively back into the mists again.
