Fantasy Item, Other

The Traitor Pen is a beautiful quill that was crafted by Gilaptik artisan-theurges in the service of their cunning Emperor Harrsa to further his need to know more about the plots and schemes of the many enemies who sought to destroy him throughout his long reign.

Appearing to be a normal if elaborate quill pen, it works as normally expected, giving no hint as to its secret nature. However, after use, if the quill is dipped in a mixture of its creator's blood and that of a dog, the next words the pen writes will be the last words written using normal ink, in reverse. The longer one continues to write, the further back in time the written words will be.

The pen will write until its blood supply runs out and will refuse to write any words except those it has recorded. Once filled with normal ink, the pen "forgets" what was written with it before and starts recording again.

Due to the extermination of the Gilaptik artisan-theurges in the Eloquent Purging by Gleeful Emperor Chedrik two centuries ago, the dried and powdered blood of each pen's creator is highly prized and very hard to come by. If sold in a set with the pen, a supply of the blood is worth more than its weight in finished sapphires.

Inspirations

Since the pens became notorious in criminal and spy circles, several elaborate scams have arisen where professional forgers either sell fake pens or pretend to write false scripts to frame someone for crimes they didn't commit.

Necrosages have been working on a solution to refresh the memory of the pens going back to their original creation, for historical and other purposes. So far they've been unsuccessful although some of the writing they've produced has been quite alarming, containing threats and vile insults. Necrosages are trying to either identify the entity they've inadvertently contacted or to sell the pens as quickly as possible.

When the pen's ink is mixed with a pinch of amnesius herb, it erases the original words written, as if they had never been.
